Kindness Corner: What Does It Mean to Be Kind?

A story about a simple act of kindness

What Does It Mean To Be Kind? by Rana DiOrio shares its message of kindness through relatable everyday experiences. Young readers will love the illustrations of all the ways to be kind.

This book gives advice to readers about how to be kind, from smiling at the new kid in class to forgiving someone who has hurt you. These real-world examples of using manners and having empathy reinforce important life skills for all kids. The book also offers examples of kindness that take courage and patience. Reading DiOrio’s story with your child can also be a great way to start a conversation about kindness, patience, and compassion. Perhaps my favorite aspect of this book is that it not only exemplifies kindness toward others and the world, but it also encourages being kind to yourself, like allowing yourself to make mistakes and learn from them. It’s such a beautiful yet profound book. You’ll want this in your collection for years to come!
